Sarısu Blue Village Kitchen Renovation

Kitchen and Entrance Renovation — Blue Village, Sarısu / Konyaaltı

Sarısu Blue Village Kitchen Renovation: About the Project

Nothing was demolished in this apartment. The walls, the floor tiles and the plumbing stayed exactly as they were; the only things that changed were the cabinetry, the worktop and the entrance door. The character of the space still changed completely — because what had aged the old kitchen was not the building, it was the materials.

The previous layout combined dark brown cabinets, a granite worktop and a white tiled splashback. Three different materials, three different colours and the dense line pattern created by the tile grout made the kitchen look smaller and busier than it really was. The dark wardrobe at the entrance stood next to it as yet another separate block.

The new scheme reduces the material count to two. The cabinets were built to measure in MDF and unified in a single cream tone. The worktop and splashback were solved in mineral composite; because the same material rises from the worktop up the wall without interruption, the tile grout disappeared entirely. Beyond tidying the room visually, this makes cleaning markedly easier — grout lines are where grease and dirt actually collect in a kitchen.

The defining decision, however, was merging the entrance wardrobe with the kitchen. These two volumes, which previously read as two unrelated pieces of furniture, were turned into one continuous cabinet run with the same carcass height, the same door finish and the same handle detail. Seen from the entrance, there are no longer two separate units but a single uninterrupted surface. The steel entrance door was also replaced with a wood-finish model so that it belongs to the same whole.

Drag the slider to compare the same spot before and after the renovation. You can see in the comparisons that the floor tiles were never changed — a measure of how far you can get without demolition.
